Say It Like You Mean It

SMS Opt-In Policy

How SMS Consent Works

Plain-language disclosure of our text messaging practices

← Back to MeanIt Cards

The short version

MeanIt Cards sends one-time, transactional text messages only. We never market by SMS, never send bulk messages, and never add anyone to a recurring list.

When a sender creates a personalized greeting card on MeanIt Cards, they can choose to deliver it by SMS to a recipient they know personally. Before entering any phone number, the sender must affirmatively confirm that they have permission from the recipient to send a text on their behalf.

How the opt-in works

Step 1 — The sender creates a card

A user creates a personalized greeting card on meanitcards.com for someone they know — a family member, friend, or close contact.

Step 2 — Sender chooses how to deliver it

After creating the card, the sender selects from multiple delivery options: email, print at home, save as image, or SMS text. SMS is presented as one option among several.

Step 3 — Required consent confirmation

If the sender chooses to deliver by SMS, they see this disclosure directly above the phone number field:

"By checking this box, I confirm I have this person's permission to receive a one-time text from MeanIt Cards delivering their card. Message & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out. Not a marketing list."

The sender must check a confirmation box next to this disclosure before the SMS send button becomes active. Without the checkbox, the text cannot be sent.

Step 4 — One message, sender-initiated

After the sender clicks "Text Card," exactly one SMS is delivered to the recipient containing a link to view the personalized card. No additional messages are sent unless the sender repeats the entire flow for a new card.

What the recipient receives

The recipient gets a single SMS that includes:

Example message:

MeanIt Cards 💌 You've got a card from Wendy! View it here: https://meanitcards.com/c.html?id=ABC12345 Reply STOP to opt out.

The recipient can ignore the link. No follow-up messages are ever sent. The recipient is not added to any list.

What we never do

Opt-out & recipient rights

Every text we send supports standard opt-out keywords, and you're always in control:

Message and data rates may apply. MeanIt Cards never charges recipients for receiving a card by text.

Message frequency & cost

Recipients receive a message only when an individual sender personally creates a card for them and chooses SMS delivery. There is no schedule, no subscription, and no ongoing communication.

Standard message and data rates from the recipient's mobile carrier may apply. MeanIt Cards does not charge recipients anything for receiving a card via SMS.
